Coverage on a valuable piece is decided before the move.

Movers provide valuation, not insurance. Valuation sets what the mover owes if a piece is lost or damaged, and you choose the level before anything is loaded.

Basic coverage

$0.60 per pound, per article

Included at no additional charge. It pays by weight: a 20-pound piece recovers $12.00, whatever it cost you.

Full Value Protection

Replacement value, up to what you declare

It pays to repair the piece, replace it, or pay its replacement value. On an interstate move it is the carrier's default, and switching to basic coverage takes your written waiver.

Declare valuable pieces in writing before move day. On an interstate move, an article worth more than $100 per pound needs a written declaration, or the carrier's liability for it can stop at $100 per pound. On a California move, list it on the inventory with a value against it.

When a box won't do, we build a crate.

Some pieces can't travel in a box: a marble top, a large mirror, a framed canvas, a sculpture with parts that stick out. For those we build a wooden crate to fit the piece.

What people ask before a specialty move.

How do you move a grand piano?

A grand makes the trip on its side on a padded piano board, wrapped in quilted pads and held with locking straps. The stairs, the turns, and the narrowest doorway at each end decide how many movers the job needs, so we ask about them before we quote.

Do you take pool tables apart before moving them?

Yes. Moving a slate table in one piece risks cracking the slate and warping the frame. We take the table apart, wrap and crate each slate section, and reassemble and re-level it at your new home. If you plan to put new cloth on it, tell us when you book.

How much does it cost to move a piano or other specialty item?

We quote each specialty item on its own, because the piece, its weight, the stairs, and the distance from the door to the truck all change the job. Send the details from the quote sheet on this page and you get a written quote, free and with no obligation.

Can you move just one item?

Yes. A piano, a safe, or a single oversized piece is its own kind of job. Your written quote states any minimum before you book.

Are specialty items insured during the move?

Movers provide valuation, and valuation is not insurance. Basic coverage, 60 cents per pound per article, comes at no additional charge, and it pays by weight. Full Value Protection pays to repair or replace a lost or damaged item, or pay its replacement value, up to the value you declare. On an interstate move, Full Value Protection is the carrier's default, and switching to basic coverage takes your written waiver. Declare anything valuable in writing before the move.

Can you move a safe up or down stairs?

Yes. We move safes on stair-climbing dollies with straps, and we lay floor protection along the path first. Send the make and model or the dimensions, the weight if you know it, and the steps at each end, and we plan the crew and equipment from there.

Do you remove hot tubs?

Yes. Hot tub removal is one of the most common requests we get, and the job includes disconnecting the electrical and the plumbing. Taking the tub to a new home instead? Send the path at both ends with your quote request.

Can you store a specialty item until the new home is ready?

Yes. Pianos, antiques, and crated pieces can wait in our climate-controlled San Jose warehouse, which has 24/7 security monitoring. We handle the pickup, the storage, and the delivery.
